- Chihuahuas
What I know about the breed: I have owned Chihuahuas for over 15 years. I have come to know much more about them than I can write in a brief bio, but in short: they are fiercely loyal, funny, sweet, and cuddly. Contrary to popular belief, Chihuahuas are ALL dog, just on a much smaller scale. They can do anything a big dog can do including but not limited tofetching, shaking hands, play dead, roll over, etc. Some of the taller and leaner Chihuahuas are very good at agility. I have also learned that Chihuahuas are absolute pigs and would eat themselves into a coma if allowed free access to food. Lastly, it is not meanness that motivates some Chihuahuas to bite or growl it is just fear and with a lot of patience and love, the "meanest" or most unsocial Chihuahua can be rehabilitated. -Martha McKenna, Mother of "Molly." She is the first Chihuahua that I have owned and I found out from owning her what a great breed this is. She is incredibly loyal to me and follows me wherever I go. She has the most personality I have ever seen in a dog: I have owned several other breeds and I grew up in a family who bred dachshunds. She is incredibly intelligent and can tell me what she wants by scratching my leg to get my attention, then she will go to the object and scratch at it so I know exactly what she wants. She is quite the character and is soo happy to receive a treat that she will dance with it. We call her signature move the biscuit dance. - Kylie Roach, Mother of " Leila." - Akita
One of our dog model contestants is Leeroy. His mother says: "He is a Akita mix and 3 months old. His breed calls for him to be aggressive and dominating, although he is a tough little guy he is alot more social than his breed."- Brenda Johnson, Mother of "Leeroy." - Pit Bull
One of our dog model contestants is Rayna. Raynas mother says: "My dog, Rayna, is a pit bull, she is 1 1/2 years old, her birthday is January 25th, 2006, Ive had her since she was 7 weeks old. I got her from Valley of The Sun Dog Rescue, her mom was originally removed from an abusive environment, while pregnant with 11 puppies. Since she was abuse, 9 of those 11 puppies were still-born, and Rayna (my dog) and one other puppy, were ok, so I just had to have her. She was a survivor. She is always happy, and you know when she did something bad because its written all over her, with her body language. I choose her because she was beautiful, cute, and I knew that I would feel safe with her since I lived alone because she is a protector. She still is. I know that pit bulls have a bad reputation, and that no one wants to come near her because shes a "bully" breed, but what I do know, is that 99% of a dogs behavior is based on the environment they were raised in, and how they were raised and treated during the developmental years. She knows every trick in the book: sit, stay, heel, lay down, off (for when she jumps on people) roll over, speak, shake, high five, she can walk on her back two feet, she catches, fetches, I can put treats on her nose and shell wait for the command to flip it then snap it out of the air, etc. "- Brianne Mayash,Scottsdale, Arizona Mother of "Rayna."
